About Us

Who We Are

We are Port Jefferson and Mount Sinai Robotics Team, a group of passionate students from both the Port Jefferson School Distruct and the Mount Sinai School District, or known as Team 496. In the our club, we design, build, and program robots to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). Our team is dedicated to fostering a love for STEM through hands-on learning and collaboration.

In our club, we work together to solve complex engineering challenges. We develop skills that are vital to prepare us for our futures, some of which include engineering, writing, programming, creativity, leadership, and teamwork.

What We Do

Skills in designing, machining, and programming, lay the foundations for our building process. Using high-quality 3D printers, as well as high quality materials, our builders are able to design and construct our robot. Our programmers bring the robot to life by coding and creating autonomous routines for the robot to follow. Our drive team then operates the robot during competitions, after lots hard work and practice.

Our team also focuses on plenty of outreach, fundraising, and community events. In the past, we have participated in the Long Island Maker Faire, where we showcase our robot to onlooker; Applebees fundraising events, where we raise money for our small team; and participating in Port Jefferson School's Computer Science Carnival where we showcase our robot to the next generation of engineers.

Our Mission

Our mission every year is to perform to the best of our abilities in the FIRST Robotics competition at Hofstra University, working to the best of our extent with our limited budget and small team. Every year we see the culmination of our year's hard work pay off at the competition, where we compete against teams from all over the World.

Beyond competitions, our mission is to promote STEM growth and education in our communities and inspire our youth to be learn the principals of engineering and robotics. We aim to help promote curiosity and ignite passion for STEM through our fundraising and outreach events.
